NASHVILLE, Tn. (May 5, 2026) — The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) today announced the expansion of its Homeownership for Heroes program to include Tennessee teachers. This program provides an interest rate reduction on THDA Great Choice home loans to help eligible Tennesseans achieve homeownership.

“Teachers play an important role in strengthening Tennessee communities, and we’ve worked to ensure our state’s educators are supported with annual pay increases and meaningful resources,” said Gov. Lee. “I thank the Tennessee Housing Development Agency for helping teachers achieve homeownership and build lasting roots in the communities they serve.”

By expanding Homeownership for Heroes—previously available to veterans, firefighters, EMTs, and law enforcement officers, to include full-time classroom teachers, THDA aims to address housing affordability challenges for educators and continue its long-standing support of those who serve Tennessee communities.

THDA Executive Director Ralph Perrey is excited to launch this expansion during National Teacher Appreciation Week. “Educators invest every day in our children and our future, and we are excited about the opportunity to further assist teachers on their path to homeownership,” Perrey said.

In the current program, Homeownership for Heroes participants receive a .50% discount on the current Great Choice Loan interest rate. This interest rate reduction saves buyers approximately $125.00 per month. Since its original launch, the program has helped 5,448 public servants purchase homes across the state.

Educators interested in the program are encouraged to contact a THDA-approved participating lender to learn more about eligibility requirements and available benefits. Additional information is available at thda.org.
