JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 3, 2026) – The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) awarded Eastern Eight Community Development Corporation (Eastern Eight) $276,210 on Thursday, September 3 through the Tennessee Housing Trust Fund (THTF). The funding will support the rehabilitation and preservation of the Comcare units, located in Greene County, which provide housing for individuals with developmental disabilities.

“The rehabilitation project of Comcare units serves as an important role in the preservation of affordable housing in Tennessee” said THDA Executive Director Ralph M. Perrey. “We are proud to support Eastern Eight in this endeavor that will make a positive impact on the lives of families for generations to come.”

The Comcare complex consists of affordable rental units, focused on supporting the transition from institutional care to community-based living for adults with developmental disabilities. The rehabilitation project includes comprehensive repairs and updates of 36 units such as roof replacement, HVAC repairs, flooring upgrades and parking area resurfacing.

The improvements will enhance the safety and accessibility of the units, while preserving long-term housing affordability for families and individuals in Greene County.

“Funding from the THTF is critical to our ability to rehabilitate the Comcare properties and preserve them as safe, quality, affordable rental housing,” said Sherry Trent, chief executive officer for Eastern Eight. “This investment allows us to preserve these properties for the long term and, most importantly, ensures that residents with disabilities can continue to have a safe and affordable place to call home.”

THDA awards THTF grants to non-profit partners for projects that develop or preserve rental housing for low and very low-income households, the elderly and individuals with special needs. Funding for THTF grants is generated from revenue earned through THDA’s Great Choice mortgage program.
