THDA staff joined Appalachia Service Project in rural Hancock County earlier this month to dedicate a new home for Carl & Hannah Nipper and their two children.
The three-bedroom, one-bathroom home was built by Appalachia Service Project with the help of a $500,000 HOME grant awarded by THDA.
The Nippers' home, which is located near the community of Xenophon in Hancock County, is the first of 11 homes ASP is constructing in the region with the help of funding from THDA and other contributors.
ASP has recently increased it’s focus on Hancock County, which ranks 95th out of the state’s 95 counties in terms of economic development, in the hopes of improving access to affordable housing for low- to very low-income residents of the rural county.
