NASHVILLE, Tn. (June 18, 2025) – The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) awarded Maryville Housing Development Corporation (MHDC) $563,826 from the Tennessee Housing Trust Fund (THTF) on Wednesday, June 18. The funding will directly support the development of 11 new affordable housing units designed for elderly or disabled households in the Maryville area.
“Partnering with agencies like MHDC to support development opportunities that serve the most vulnerable Tennesseans is a top priority for THDA,” said Executive Director of THDA, Ralph Perry. “Our agency holds great pride in providing pivotal funding to help projects like this make it to the finish line.”
The project will feature a mix of six one-bedroom and five two-bedroom apartments, all conveniently located on the ground floor to enhance accessibility. Each unit will be designed with handicap visitability in mind and include accessible showers. Two units will be fully handicapped-accessible, and the remaining units will incorporate adaptable features for potential future conversion to full accessibility.
The new units will be located on Mcnabb St and will serve low-income families at or below 30% area median income (AMI). AMI represents the midpoint of a region’s income distribution.
“This project is not just about building apartments, but about building a stronger, more inclusive community in Blout County. We are thankful for THDA’s partnership with this project and how it will offer a new and creative approach to our communities’ affordable housing needs,” said Julie Sharpe, President of MHDC.
THDA is committed to addressing housing disparities in Tennessee. Grants are given to eligible non-profit partners, public housing authorities, development districts, and local communities to increase the availability of affordable housing across the state.
