THDA awards Park Center grant to assist mentally ill
October 2020 – A grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) will allow Park City to secure property to house 13 individuals experiencing severe mental illness, homelessness or addiction.
The $409,353 Tennessee Housing Trust Fund grant was one of six totaling just over $2.4 million that were awarded during the Spring 2020 round of THDA’s competitive grant program.
THDA Executive Director Ralph M. Perrey said the grant funding will allow Park Center to continue to serve a vulnerable population in Central Tennessee.
“We are pleased to continue supporting projects like this that make a positive difference and help improve the overall quality of life for the people that live there,” Perrey said.
Park Center Director of Residential Services David Langgle-Martin said individuals with mental illness are often overlooked.
“I’m proud that through our partnership with THDA and the work we do over here at Park Center, we’re able to provide those opportunities for people to really reach their full potential and recover and become the best individuals they can be,” Langgle-Martin said.
Founded in 1984, Park Center empowers people who have mental illness and substance use disorders to live and work in their communities.
The Tennessee Housing Trust Fund (THTF) was created by the THDA board of directors to provide financial support for innovative, affordable initiatives that serve the housing needs of Tennessee’s most vulnerable residents.
Funding for the Tennessee Housing Trust Fund comes entirely from earnings generated through THDA’s Single Family Mortgage program. THTF grants are awarded through a competitive application process. Since 2006 THDA has provided over $89.6 million in THTF grants to local governments and nonprofit organizations across the state.
