Section 8 Waiting List Openings and Closings
The next Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waitlist application date is currently scheduled for Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. (Central Time). We will also post this information on our Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The link to the application portal will only appear here on designated application dates. For the best experience, please use a computer (desktop or laptop) to complete the pre-application.
To apply for THDA’s wait list online, you must have an email address and a registered RentCafe account.
*You cannot apply without an email address and a registered RentCafe account.* Please follow these steps:
- Do you have an e-mail address? You need one to start. Click here for email help
- Do you have a registered RentCafe account? You must register first. Click here to register
- Did you save your password? Write it down now and put it in a safe place.
If you take these steps, you are ready! This does not mean that you have submitted a pre-application.
ON JANUARY 8, 2026:
(Please note: the portal to apply will ONLY be open on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Central Time)
- If you have your RentCafe account, go to step 2. If you do not, please complete the instructions in the “Get Ready” section above.
- Visit https://raportal.thda.org/ and select, “APPLICANT LOGIN”
- Enter your RentCafe registered email address and password, as directed.
- Log into your account.
- Click Apply to waiting list.
- Fill out the form. Click here for step-by-step instructions
- Click Submit when you have completed entering all information.
- The screen will say, “Application Submitted” when you’re done.
- No further information is required until THDA contacts you when your name comes to the top of the waitlist.
- If you need to make changes to your application or account, simply log in with your RentCafe registered email address and password to make updates and check on your application.

If you have RentCafe accounts with other housing authorities, you may need further assistance if you have trouble logging into THDA’s RentCafe portal. Please pay attention to the highlighted instructions on the “Applicant Login” page and have the information requested ready so we may assist you.
